Ashleigh Ide, LMSW

Through a psychodynamic psychotherapy approach, I strive to provide a warm and open environment that promotes curiosity and growth. Seeking therapy takes real courage. Relationships change, self-esteem wavers, bodies transform, unforeseen social and cultural events occur that place us in uncharted waters, and life turns inexplicably uncertain. Whatever the reason, therapy is a unique opportunity to examine internal and relational conflicts, tease out unhelpful thoughts and deepen your understanding of yourself in ways that foster empowerment, vitality, and creativity.

Very often, we are led to believe that psychic pain starts solely within us when in actuality, a mix of societal, familial, and relational factors combine to shape our experience. These factors influence and can often impede one’s ability to be mindful in traditionally accepted ways. Therefore, anti-racism, reproductive justice, LGBTQAI+ visibility, and climate justice as both concepts and practice inform my work.

In addition to my psychotherapy practice at Rivergreen, I am a psychoanalytic candidate at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP) in New York City.

My interest in psychoanalysis, the hallmarks of which are exploration and curiosity, stems from my own years-long work and advancement as an analytic patient. In my commitment to progress the field toward a more inclusive, accessible and socially-minded practice, I also serve on the board of directors of NIP’s Professional Association (NIPPA) and co-chair their Focus event series, bringing progressive perspectives to practicing clinicians. As a first career and now part-time vocation, I am also a photographer and digital imaging specialist.
